Revelation 8:1-3

When the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. 2 Then I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them. 3 And another angel came and stood at the altar with a golden censer, and he was given much incense to offer with the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar before the throne

If you are a parent of young children, you may be intrigued by the verse that describes a half hour of silence. The rest of you will be familiar with the awkward silence. In the case of the 7 seals of Revelation, the 30 minutes of quiet may be a portent of something extraordinary. In typical Revelation fashion, there are many possibilities for what it can mean, whether it is silent awe by created beings, a half hour lull in revelation so John can write it all down, or the calm before a massive storm.

Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow as we learn that, whatever it is, something important is coming because it is the last seal. It comes in the form of 7 trumpets and corresponding woes. In your quiet time, you are most attentive to the Lord and his will for you. In this quiet time, we will be most attentive to the Lamb of God who was slain. We will gaze in silent awe at his power to destroy the world and to save it. May we be ready to worship the Lord Jesus Christ in loud song and…in silence.

O Heavenly Father, you are in your heaven so we will let our words be few. We will only sing your praises and be in silent awe. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
