Acts 1:7-8
He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Sometimes, even after a long explanation of a hard topic, we can sit back and say, “That makes it perfectly obscure”. Vicki can explain a math or tech topic as if I am three, and I will still struggle. Here in Acts are two verses where each person of the Trinity is present and even explained to an extent, yet, we still have questions. Each person in the Trinity has a role, that much we can see. Beyond that, we struggle. One thing we cannot struggle with is what our role is. It is right here in verse 8. We are to be his witnesses.
Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow to learn your role. I am from the Sinking Spring church and we had an “Acts 1:8” model for evangelism and mission. Sinking Spring was Jerusalem. A 10-mile radius was Judea. Places like Cape May, where Vicki and I were sent, were Samaria. And the ends of the earth were all over, like Tanzania, Scotland, and France. While we will need to wait until “that day” to understand the Trinity, this day, Acts 1:8 says, we are in the mission field. May we be witnesses today, with power, wherever we are, of Jesus Christ.
Dear Lord, thank you that you are God and you give us power to be your witnesses. May we worship you for allowing us to witness this power. IN Jesus’ name. Amen.
