For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

Theoretical physicists use visual analogies to explain their theories of the universe because our brains need to make it smaller in order to understand it. We cannot do that with God. The fact that we cannot understand the Trinity tells us we cannot understand the fullness of God but we can understand his faith-fulness. Like physicists, we attempt to make God water, ice, and steam, in order to understand him but three separate things can’t do that. That is actually good news. If we could understand God by making him smaller, he would be too small to save us.

Jesus has that fullness and therefore, Jesus Christ is sovereign. He came to earth as a man, but Paul wrote in 2:9,

9 For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10 and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.

Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow and see that now, the fullness of God is in Jesus and we are filled in him when we become members of his universal church of which he is the head. God is in his heaven. God is with us, Immanuel in Christ Jesus. God is in us in the Holy Spirit. We don’t need analogies to demonstrate the Trinity. Our changed lives do just that! That is something even theoretical physicists cannot know without God’s revelation.

Dear Lord, thank you for revealing your faithfulness to us in the fullness of Jesus Christ. May we worship him tomorrow in the body. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
