In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God.

The first words of John echo the first words of Genesis. In the beginning. Genesis means beginning. John tells us that the Word was there in the beginning. That Word is Jesus Christ. John 1:1 famously tells us who Jesus is and was in the beginning. The Word was God. Such is the majesty of God the Son that he is God, the Word, and the beginning himself, the Alpha. Revelation 22, at the end of the Bible, tells us,

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”

Jesus Christ is the Genesis and the Revelation, the Word of God. He is the Son of God. he is God in the flesh. This prologue to John’s gospel tells us all we need to know when reading the next 20 chapters.

Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow as, from beginning to end, we worship the Prophet, Priest, and King, the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, The Word. we will worship the Triune God as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and we will know better who we love, serve, and worship. Jesus asked the question of his disciples in Matthew 16. Who do you say that I am? We will be able to answer. You are the I AM. Come and worship the Word, the God who knows all about us and knew it…in the beginning.

Dear Lord, thank you that we worship the Almighty Triune God and not false gods. May we worship you as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and praise you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
