And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say,
“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty,
who was and is and is to come!”
The Apostle John was in the Spirit and was shown amazing things about the end of this present age. Specific to this passage are the 4 creatures and the 24 elders. They teach us much about worship. The creatures were quite repetitive in their proclamation of the holiness of Jesus Christ and his presence from the beginning to the end. He is the Alpha and the Omega! They glorify him and thank him. Then the elders were more animated. They fell on their faces and cast their crowns, saying,
11 “Worthy are you, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they existed and were created.”
The worship wars show no sign of ceasefire. Take note that there is nothing about singing here. That is in the next chapter. What is important is that Jesus Christ is worshiped. If we are doing that, whether we sing or speak, the argument over method is secondary. We should worship Jesus with our singing, our prayer, our casting of our gifts, our speaking of the word, and our communion with him. That sounds suspiciously like one of our worship services! Let the unity of the church and our sincere worship of Jesus Christ show the world that the Lamb is worthy. Amen!
Dear Lord, thank you for the reasons to worship you. May we never forget your holiness and power as we worship you every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
