1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2      He makes me lie down in green pastures.

He leads me beside still waters.

3      He restores my soul.

He leads me in paths of righteousness

for his name’s sake.

We all know this Psalm from funerals and it is fitting because after a hard life on earth, the Lord has a beautiful home in store for us. But Psalm 23 is not just for funerals. David wrote many of the psalms, especially the despairing ones, while on the run from King Saul. Therefore, Psalm 23 can speak to us in our stress. We can imagine David holed up in a cave thinking back to a simpler time when he was a shepherd. He knew that a shepherd goes on before the flock, leading them, not beating them from behind, berating them. His comfort came from knowing that nothing he was going through was a surprise to the Lord. The Lord goes on before and we simply follow and trust him. Think about that today as you navigate through the stresses in your life. Take comfort in the fact that the Lord Jesus Christ is leading you through it because he has gone through it. He has suffered. He has lost. He has risen. Follow him today. The waters will be stilled for you.

God Bless,
