The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.

Businesses put flags, A-frame signs, and lighted signs at their businesses for a reason. They want you to know they are there so that, when you need them, you will know where they are. The truth is, however, unless we need that particular product, we still will not see the sign, unfortunately for business owners. John used the analogy of the water to illustrate this. When we are satisfied and hydrated, there can be a glass of water right in front of us and we will not see it. Put us in a desert, however, and suddenly we are very thirsty and the glass is front and center and we reach out for it, not caring how much it costs. That is the way our salvation in Christ works.

Even if our church signage says, “Come”, people will never even see it. But if they are lost, without a map or compass, afraid, with nowhere to go, suddenly, a church sign that says “Come”, is a welcome message. We cannot cause that to happen. It is the Holy Spirit that makes people thirsty and shows the way when they are lost and alone. They will be willing to pay any price for the product we offer. The Good News is that it is free of charge because Jesus paid the price on the cross. Let’s become distributors of the water of life!

Dear Lord, thank you for the free gift of salvation. May we not be shy about sharing this free gift with the thirsty and the lost. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
