I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart;

      I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.

            2       I will be glad and exult in you;

      I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.

In The Princess Bride, the evil Prince Humperdinck says, “I swear it will be done.” That is a good clue that the opposite was being planned. David said 4 times in these first 2 verses of Psalm 9, “I will”. When man says it, even a man after God’s own heart, the words must be taken lightly because our appetites and time constraints turn our “I wills” into “I mights”. David pledged to praise God precisely because he remembered the “I wills” of God and saw that God fulfilled every promise. He could recount all the Lord’s wonderful deeds because he remembered them. His memory caused him joy and he would sing to the name of the Lord and exult in him.

Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow and see how God had made a promise to David in 2 Samuel 7:14 that his offspring would be on the throne forever. Then came the Son of David, Jesus Christ. He said that he would rise. He did. He said he would go to prepare a place for us. He has. He said he will return to bring his children home to the kingdom. He will. See how the “I wills” of God extend to all of us so we can sing praises to Jesus Christ. We will gather, not just to say “I will” praise him, but to praise him.

Dear Lord, thank you for the promises of mercy and love. In response, may we sing your praise as we gather together. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
