20 In that day the remnant of Israel and the survivors of the house of Jacob will no more lean on him who struck them, but will lean on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. 21 A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God.

It is always a pleasure to write something on the calendar in ALL CAPS and with many exclamation marks. It means “THAT DAY” is going to be a great day. That day for Israel will be a great day but it will be for just a few, a remnant. This bittersweet reminder of God’s judgment in Isaiah is a reminder that this day will be a disastrous day for many people because of our fallen world. Where there is disaster with mass casualties, there are survivors, as Isaiah called them. When they were under threat and captivity, they were dependent on Assyria and Babylon because they were powerless to change it. That is why that day will change everything for the survivors, the remnant.

In this world, there will be trouble, today, in fact, for someone. On this day, may we remember the promise of Isaiah, the promise of God to never leave us nor forsake us, and the promise of Jesus to return on “THAT DAY!!!” For those who have never heard these promises, may we have words of comfort similar to these in Isaiah, that the survivors of this world will be a remnant that will live with Christ and worship him forever. We can’t mark our calendar because we don’t know when but we can live an ALL CAPS life!!

Dear Lord, thank you for that day when we will see you in glory. Help us to remember the promises. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
