Go into the village in front of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. 3 If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.’ ”
In the M. Night Shyamalan film, Signs, the family idiosyncrasies, like letting glasses of water everywhere or the son’s asthma, made perfect sense at the end as the providence of a Supreme Being. These traits may have confounded other members of the family that were forced to live with it but they were thankful in the end. The two disciples sent on a colt run may have been equally confounded, wondering what sense this made. They may not have known that they were fulfilling the prophecy in Zechariah 9:9
Behold, your king is coming to you;
righteous and having salvation is he,
humble and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
We may be wondering why we and those around us have our idiosyncrasies and ailments. We may find it confounding that we have the bodies we do or the home we have. Let us remember today that it is no accident and there are no mundane tasks for the Lord. They all fit into his perfect plan for mankind. Your life may feel like a meaningless donkey run but rest assured that God has work for you to do and it is his perfect will that commands it. Be faithful and obedient today.
Dear Lord, thank you that no life is wasted and no task is meaningless. Help us to see the meaningfulness of our lives for your kingdom. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
