16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.

In “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”, Linus adds a postscript to his letter to the mythical Great Pumpkin, “P.S.; if you really are a fake, don’t tell me. I don’t wanna know.” In our worst moments, we can find ourselves with the same feeling of doubt about our faith, especially when we are struggling. We are not in the same situation as Linus, praise the Lord! Linus had no eyewitness account of a flying pumpkin. We have four accounts as well as the book of Acts that describes the appearance of Jesus to Saul of Tarsus, the author of this letter. If Jesus is a fake, we are of all people most to be pitied. Paul said this because persecution would soon be coming and he feared the Corinthians lacked the theological grounding to handle it. He wanted them to know why they believed.

Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow to learn why the Risen Lord has changed the world far more than any philanthropic fruit. Our calendars changed as a result of Jesus. More importantly, our lives have changed because of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Come and worship our King with us!

Dear Lord, thank you for the hope that we have because you are alive. May we die to self and be reborn as followers of Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
