Deliver me, O LORD, from evil men;
preserve me from violent men,
2 who plan evil things in their heart
and stir up wars continually.
3 They make their tongue sharp as a serpent’s,
and under their lips is the venom of asps.
When reading these words from the psalmist, one might wonder if he wrote them this morning, such is the state of the world. Each day, I see the story of a horrific act perpetrated on a child or a parent, even grandparents, by family members. Even the police, who have seen it all, are astounded at times at the evil in our world. Violence in cities is at an all time high. Premeditated murder betrays a cold heart. The war in Ukraine still stirs, as do wars all over the world. Social Media bullying is preying on our children while a blind public turns their backs on them. It begs the question, “How do people live in this world?” the answer for some is that they don’t.
That is why Jesus Christ is the answer to the world’s problems. His ministry on earth taught us how to love our neighbor as ourselves and to be the Good Samaritan we want others to be for us. He taught us to do unto others what we would have done to us. It is time for a revival of the gospel teaching of Jesus Christ. Not only would the world be a better place, but lives would be changed, saved, not taken away. May we be a part of that solution!
Dear Lord, Thank you that there is a way out of this mess. Thank you for Jesus Christ and the cross. Help us to be his hands and feet today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
