And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 And he said this plainly.
As children, our parents slowly got us accustomed to the fact that everyone dies. It is hard on the child to come right out and say it. Here Jesus began to teach the disciples about the upcoming death of the Son of Man, the Messiah. It was not long before this that they found out who Jesus really was, the Son of God. Now the Son of God is getting them ready for an unacceptable necessity; the death of Jesus Christ. Then suddenly, out it came! He will be killed but… after three days rise again. I love the way verse 32 begins as he said it plainly as if to get us ready for the absurdity which was Peter’s reaction.
Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow as we take a hard look at that reaction. We will see why this had to be and why it was evil to wish otherwise. Jesus said plainly that he had prophecy to fulfill from Isaiah 52 and 53. The Lamb must be slain. Let us not miss the good news that follows; the Gospel message. Jesus Christ who died for us, rose again so that all who believe in him live with him forever. Jesus said I am the way, the Truth, and the Life…
He said this plainly.
