Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
Our granddaughter Harriet is with us for a few days and we are cherishing every second we get to spend with her. As great as that is, imagine the joy and amazement at being in the presence of God the Son, Jesus Christ, while on earth! The works of God were displayed in him in an unusual way; through the suffering and disability of a young man. His disciples were waiting for an answer to their question about whose fault this tragedy was, the man or his parents. That way they could blame one or the other. The lesson for them that it was not necessarily a tragedy but a chance for God to work in the world ina major way and did he ever.
Many in our church have been suffering from various maladies, including cancer. We can easily see this as God’s punishment for the sins of either ourselves or our parents. Not the case. Jesus took the punishment for our sins on the cross and now God does his great works through us in our trials. When we withstand our trials with grace, the grace of God becomes evident to others who are hurting. In a sense, the light of the world shines through us in our suffering. Now, instead of dreading the next trial in our life, we can…
Cherish every moment.
