The LORD said to Moses, “Yet one plague more I will bring upon Pharaoh and upon Egypt. Afterward he will let you go from here. When he lets you go, he will drive you away completely. 2 Speak now in the hearing of the people, that they ask, every man of his neighbor and every woman of her neighbor, for silver and gold jewelry.”
You may get frustrated like I do that people we pray for just don’t get it, that they don’t fall on their knees and cry out, “My Lord and my God!” when all the evidence they need is there. Then I think back at how resistant I was and it makes more sense. Then I read this account of the Hebrews slaves, the plagues, and the Egyptian hardheartedness and it makes even more sense. What’s more, as in all Scripture, God’s sovereignty shines through brightly in these verses. The Egyptians endured all these plagues under their own power with amazing stubbornness. Then came this promise from God to Moses, that not only would they let them go, they would demand it. Then on top of that, they would finance the trip!
This should encourage us in our prayers for loved ones. Let us remember that it is in God’s hands and that his ways are good all the time and that our ways are stubborn. Let us stubbornly pray that God does his will and they suddenly turn to him. Then we can praise him for yet another deliverance from slavery. Pray without ceasing!
Dear Lord, thank you that you are in control of all things and you allow us to participate in your plan. We pray for our loved ones to see your sovereign power in their lives. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
