The LORD has remembered us; he will bless us;

      he will bless the house of Israel;

      he will bless the house of Aaron;

            13       he will bless those who fear the LORD,

      both the small and the great.

            14       May the LORD give you increase,

      you and your children!

            15       May you be blessed by the LORD,

      who made heaven and earth!

I’ll think about it. When you hear that from someone you might want to think about asking someone else. There is a reason we do not say in our marriage vows, “I might.”, but we say “I will with the help of God.” “I will” is a promise. It is a sign of covenant commitment. Praise the Lord that he does not say “I might bless you.” See in this psalm that he will bless Israel those who fear him. You will be blessed. There is no “may” in the Lord’s blessing. It is used here as a prayer in full expectation that the Lord may bless. This is good news.

It is especially good when the world is in such need of blessing. People walking the earth feel cursed, but not us. There is no good in thinking that God might bless us in these troubled times. He promised that he will never leave us nor forsake us. May we remember that he is the Sovereign God and there is no maybe in his love for us. His love and mercy are sure. Think about it.

Dear Lord, thank you that we can ponder your power and your mercy. Help us to trust you more and believe that you will bless us today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
