How long will all of you attack a man

      to batter him,

      like a leaning wall, a tottering fence?

            4       They only plan to thrust him down from his high position.

      They take pleasure in falsehood.

                  They bless with their mouths,

      but inwardly they curse.

It is not often that a psalm begins with the word “for” because that usually points to the verses before. In this case however, there is nothing before the “for”. Strangely though, these verses that come after it can serve in that role. David proclaimed that it is futile to attack God’s children. Why? Look at verses 1 and 2;

For God alone my soul waits in silence;
from him comes my salvation.
2 He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.
That’s why!
We were warned this week by Franklin Graham that storms are coming for the church and I believe he is right. The world is declining in rapid fashion and we had better be prepared. This psalm tells us that we have a rock to cling to in the storm and we have a fortress to protect us from our enemies. Perhaps the warning would best be given to those who would attack us with their mouths and even their hands. On the Day of the Lord that is coming, no storm will compare to the fire Jesus will bring. They will have no rock but will wish one would fall on them. They will have no fortress to protect them from the judgment to come. Instead of attacking them, let us pray for them.
Dear Lord, thank you that we are safe in your loving arms from any attacks. We pray for those that need your salvation. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
