And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay. 5 And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”

Where there is a will, there is a way. If you really do not want to do something, there are ways to not do it. If I am a roofer, I can say I can’t work in the rain but I can also say that it is too nice a day to work. Then I go fishing. This scene in Mark is an inspiring story of what people would do to see the Lord. The crowds prevented anyone from getting near, or so we may have thought. Their will was to receive healing for a paralytic and the way to get him there was through the roof! I wonder who even thought of that!

The church has gone through some hard times and getting to church became difficult due to government restrictions on gathering. Our will was to retain community in any way we could so we created Zoom daily prayer meetings, we met on Zoom on Sunday mornings, so that when the churches could reopen, we were ready to praise the Lord in the gathering of believers. I hear many reasons not to go to church, ranging from too rainy to too nice out. Today, let us remember the resourcefulness of the paralytics friends and the church in 2020. Jesus is the way and there is a way to see him. Gather together.

Dear Lord, thank you for Jesus as head of the church. Help us to reach out to him this Sunday. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
