Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last. 47 Now when the centurion saw what had taken place, he praised God, saying, “Certainly this man was innocent!” 48 And all the crowds that had assembled for this spectacle, when they saw what had taken place, returned home beating their breasts.

There is not much to add to this Scripture, the most heart wrenching and convicting in all history. Jesus commended his spirit. And our sins. His work was finished. The perfect sacrifice was accomplished by the only man capable of submitting to it; the only man who did not need to. The King.

Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow for a major mood swing. The eyewitness testimony of what happened on that first Easter echos down through the ages to our ears and we never tire of hearing it. Come and see why we have hope in a world filled with death. Hear the words of the angel at the empty tomb.

Why do you seek the living among the dead?

Come and see that the Lord is good, that the Lord is alive. Come and see why his followers, even today, believe, even though the disciples did not believe at first, the words of Mary Magdalene,

I have seen the Lord! (John 20:18)

Come and see that he is risen. He is risen indeed!

Dear Lord, thank you for the manger, the cross, and the empty tomb. May we worship you on this glorious day! In Jesus’ name. Amen.
