I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son.
If you obey you will be blessed. If you disobey, you will be cursed. That is the simple message of Deuteronomy 28 and the covenant God made with the people through Moses. There is a lot of uncertainty, based on the performance of Israel, which was certainly poor. There is no such uncertainty in these verses that present a covenant God made with David. There is no “I might”. There are four “I wills” and three “He shalls”. God will give David offspring, a key word in our current sermon series, who will reign forever as his Son with God as his Father. The offspring shall come from David, build the temple, and be a son to God. There is a lot of certainty. What is less certain is who this offspring is exactly.
Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow to learn from the Old and New Testaments who God is talking about. Is it Solomon? Is it Jesus? We will learn much about how Solomon built the temple and Jesus builds his church. Come and see what God has done through his covenant relationship with his people!
Dear Lord, thank you that you are a Father to us through your Son. Thank you for the Bible that makes this relationship clear. Help us to understand your plan better so we can enjoy your relationship to its full. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
