Psalm 5:1-3
Give ear to my words, O LORD;
consider my groaning.
2 Give attention to the sound of my cry,
my King and my God,
for to you do I pray.
3 O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice;
in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.
“It was nice talking to you.” Everyone knows a good listener and it is indeed nice talking to them, knowing that you are being heard instead of getting the feeling that they are simply waiting for your lips to stop moving so they can talk about themselves. They give attention, something David commands but with the full knowledge that God’s mind does not wander away from our needs nor does he ignore our pleas. That is why it is to God that David prayed instead of a mortal who had limited abilities and power. David went right to the source, his King and his God. David simply makes his request and waits.
Everyone has groaning but not everyone cries out to the King of kings, instead going to a friend of theirs. There is a lot to be said for finding a good listener but the best listener is one who will hear and then pray with you and for you. That is the best way to groan and David prayed in the morning. That is when we have our daily Zoom prayer meetings at 7:30 Monday through Thursday. Each of these messages has the link at the bottom so feel free to join us next Monday. In the meantime…
Dear Lord, teach us to pray. We know the prayer Jesus taught us but keep us close to you so we can pray to you in the morning and wait. We know you hear us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
