Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the sake of the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth, which accords with godliness, 2 in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began 3 and at the proper time manifested in his word through the preaching with which I have been entrusted by the command of God our Savior;

After the end of the book of Acts, Paul continued his ministry. He wrote  this letter to Titus, with Timothy, his apprentice church planter. The first three verses are a standard greeting for a letter but further examination will reveal a lot about the gospel. Paul is a slave of Christ but made an apostle by his grace. God chooses to reveal his truth to those he chose. We have hope in this world because God keeps his promises. We know this because Jesus came to earth to bring the gospel to us. Paul and others after him were entrusted with the preaching of the gospel.

We have these truths for ourselves today. We are slaves who are called to serve him. We are no longer our own because we have the hope of a better world with our Master. We know this because God never lies and told us that whoever believes in Jesus Christ would have eternal life. The word was made flesh and died on a cross so we could be forgiven and adopted as sons and daughters. On top of that, he has entrusted us with the gospel message and the command to make disciples. In Acts, Paul told his story twice and most likely far more than that. After Acts…

We have been entrusted.
