Then shall the young women rejoice in the dance,
and the young men and the old shall be merry.
I will turn their mourning into joy;
I will comfort them, and give them gladness for sorrow.
When my mind is filled with so many things that I need to get done, it is a joy when someone promises to take something off my plate and thus make room for the next thing to which I cannot say no. Promises have been a running theme of late for me and I love how God does that. God’s promises for the people of Israel in the face of Babylonian captivity must have filled their minds with many things that have no place in the mind of God’s people. Fear, dread of the future, lack of faith in their deliverance, and a hesitance to own up to their own sin are hallmarks of the human nature and God’s patience may have been tested but never his ability or willingness to keep his promise. That is a hallmark of his Divine Nature. His steadfast love and mercy are on show here.
Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow as we experience the sheer joy and leave the hallmarks of our fallen sinful nature lying at the foot of the cross where Jesus paid for all our sins, including fear and faithlessness. We will see why joy is on so many Christmas cards this year but in far too few hearts. Let us learn how the gospel can solve our inability to dance and sing…
To the King.
