Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. 20 For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.

Has anyone ever called you and started talking like they have known you all their lives and you have no clue who it is? It is an awkward feeling when you finally have to ask who it is. Sometimes it is an old friend you have not seen in years. Other times it is a complete stranger to you and it was a wrong number. Their words made no sense on earth. That is what the law is to those who are lawless. God has written eternity on our hearts and has given us common grace so we have a sense of right and wrong but his law is foreign to those it was not written for. It makes no sense to the perishing. Paul shows us the purpose of the law; to show us our sin. Isaiah saw the Lord and his sin. The law does that. It says, “You need a Savior.”

The best message a person can receive is that we cannot save ourselves. We cannot be “good enough” to be saved. Not murdering is admirable but worthless for our atonement. There must be a price paid for our penalty of sin. Ordinarily, we would pay it but praise the Lord that Jesus came to earth to fulfill the law and pay our fine. When Jesus calls you to himself, you will be one of the Shepherd’s sheep and…

You will recognize his voice.
