But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13 waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. 14 For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.
You had one job. That is usually said to the person who failed miserably at one thing that should have seemed easy. The damage is usually seen on YouTube as a tree through a house roof. We can never say those words to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He indeed had one job as the Lamb of God and that was to die for our sins as the perfect sacrifice. Done. But that was just one of his jobs. The universe was created through him, Colossians says. Done. It can seem like he died, rose again; and then sat down in a waiting room waiting to be called to finish the work of his only other job, establishing the kingdom. But all the while, he is perfecting us in his word, sanctifying us through the Holy Spirit that he promised in John and sent in Acts.
The job is not done. The forgiveness? Done. The growth of the believer? Never done. We are perfected for all time in that we are seen as perfected in God’s sight because he sees us in Christ. But we are constantly being perfected, growing in the Lord. The work is constant and Jesus is at work in our lives in ways we cannot imagine. Luke said in Acts that he recorded all that Jesus BEGAN to do and teach. He did more. He does more. He will return to finish the work of restoration. The job will be…
Done.
