For the lips of a forbidden woman drip honey,
and her speech is smoother than oil,
4 but in the end she is bitter as wormwood,
sharp as a two-edged sword.
5 Her feet go down to death;
her steps follow the path to Sheol;
6 she does not ponder the path of life;
her ways wander, and she does not know it.
The anti-proverb, “forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest” best describes the state of the world right now. Put up a sign that says “Keep Off the Grass” and you might as well put picnic tables up because it will get pretty crowded. The author of this proverb knew that and it was much the same 3,000 years ago. The downfall of many marriages has been the desire for something exciting and for some reason, adultery tops some people’s list of recreation. The Bible promises that the end is not worth the means. It would seem that everyone knows this by now but the statistics show that the lesson still needs to be learned.
We may think that because we are Christians and go to church that we are immune to the trap described in these verses. Again, the statistics do not lie. 76% of young Christians think pornography is not a sin. Their ways wander and they do not even know it. Christian marriages are collapsing everywhere because of our perverted sense of Christian liberty. Today is the day to change some bad habits and ponder the path of life. This path has been prepared by the only sinless man who ever lived. Forbidden fruit rots but the fruit of the Spirit leads to…
A sweet life.
