O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. 2 Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?

In sales, I was taught the “compliment sandwich” when demanding overdue payments from customers. The short version was this: “You are a great customer! You owe us a thousand dollars. You are a great customer!” We learn two things from these verses in Galatians. One, the Bible does not teach the sandwich. And two, Paul had no use for it. Paul saw some things in the Galatian churches that troubled him and he was not in the mood for niceties. In the previous chapter, the Apostle Peter received a dose of Paul’s opinion on false teaching and now it was the Galatians’ turn. In short, he told them, “You know Jesus crucified and the resulting grace, yet you run right back to the law. Foolish and bewitched.”

Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow and find out how deceptively it happened in these churches and how easy it is for us to fall into the same trap. There are many preachers with a similar false gospel and they have many followers on social media and on TV. Paul would have similar words for such preachers and the congregations they do a disservice to. Paul would ask…

Are you so foolish?
