There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. 7 But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift.

“There are many truths, many paths, and no one has a monopoly on truth.” I have reached lifetime tolerance for that statement. It is not truth. Paul knew that there was one true God as he wrote to the Galatians earlier. When I prepare a sermon, I look at the passage for repeated words. Count the number of times the number one is mentioned. Never mind, I did it for you. It is written eight times in these few verses. One gets the impression that Paul had one idea in mind about one God and one truth, giving all Christians one hope.

Without this one God, there is no hope. “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” Jesus said these words to tell the world that there is one way, one truth, and one life. If all paths lead to God, then Jesus picked a strange one and commanded us to follow the same path. He chose a cross and told us to carry ours also. Rest assured that you have not chosen the wrong path. You were chosen by the one true God for the one hope for all the world. His death, like the Three Musketeers motto, was one for all. With that in mind, we should live our lives…

All for one.
