Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, 20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

“If you’re happy and you know it, say Amen!” Amen! This is a typical conditional if/then statement that we have discussed many times in these devotionals about the old covenant. If you obey the law, you will be blessed. Israel did not obey the law. Therefore, they needed a new covenant, which is what the author of Hebrews announced to them in the first verses of chapter 10. Therefore, if that is true, then there should be some behavior changes in the recipients of that covenant. He then listed them for the Jewish Christians. They should hold fast to the hope, stimulate one another, meet together, and encourage one another.

Today is no different. As they encountered persecution that made them wary of following Christ, we are encountering Covid and apathy. However, if we, like them, are in a new covenant, then we should be doing certain things; clinging to the hope of the cross, spurring each other to service, gathering together safely, and supporting each other. We have a Great High Priest, Jesus Christ, who died for us. Let us live for him. If we do, we will be happy and we will know it…

Clap clap, stomp stomp, Amen!
