Joseph, being seventeen years old, was pasturing the flock with his brothers. He was a boy with the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, his father’s wives. And Joseph brought a bad report of them to their father. 3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his sons, because he was the son of his old age. And he made him a robe of many colors.

Tattle-tale, rat, narc, fink. These are words we used in school to describe the kid who told on us to the teacher. These kids usually did not enjoy recess or dodgeball. And so it went for Joseph. His big brothers did not appreciate the bad performance evaluation given to Jacob. Bad things were about to happen to Joseph and, lest we think he had it coming, think about this fact about the book of Genesis with all its heroes; Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob. The last 14 chapters are primarily about Joseph, the second youngest son of Jacob. His life is worthy of study.

Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow and we will do just that. We will take a close look at the life of Joseph, from the pit to the power of Egypt. We will learn from his faith and trust in the Sovereign God who gave him trials, rescued him from the same, and was always with him. Today’s world is the pits and we all seek the power that Joseph enjoyed. We will learn through the next 7 weeks that the pit and the power did not matter near as much as the Providence of God. That should make a difference as we read the news of the world. In the end…

It will be a good report.
