And a scribe came up and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” 20 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”

There is snow forecast for Cape May today which is rare. The school where Vicki teaches has a snow day! If you have nowhere you need to be, you probably love to sit in the comfort of your own home, looking out the window at the winter wonderland outside. That is, unless you are outside because you have nowhere to go. Snow was not a major part of the weather pattern in ancient Palestine but Jesus knew what it was like to be in the elements, the cold, the rain, the burning sun. Truth be told, Jesus could probably stay in anyone’s home. His point was, as an itinerant preacher, wandering the land, he had no permanent home and was content with that.

While we sit inside watching the snow this morning, let us think about and pray for those with no place to lay their head who stayed in our church last night. Let us also not forget what Jesus showed us by this example. Even if we have the nicest home on the street, no place on earth is the permanent home of a follower of Jesus Christ. My ancestors lived in Berks County since 1738 and I thought I would die there. Jesus told us to follow him wherever he goes, and sends, no matter the weather pattern. Enjoy the snow, praise the Lord for your home, pray for the homeless, and…

Follow Jesus wherever he goes.
