Matthew 25:10-13

10 And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. 11 Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ 12 But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13 Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

It was Holy Week. In fact, it was Tuesday, though the Jews most likely would have called it merely, “The third day of the week”. Jesus neared the end of his time on earth. He was ready. His mind was on his followers and those who would follow him after he ascended to heaven so he spoke this parable. He wanted his followers to have what they needed for the marriage feast. It is especially important because at the great marriage feast, we, the church, are the bride, and Jesus is the bridegroom.

There is a reason most weddings don’t start on time. There is a lot of preparation and hard work that goes into a wedding, mostly having to do with the bride’s hair. This one will be different. The work is hard, the work is excruciating, and the work is finished. Jesus finished it on the cross. All we need to do to get ready is to put on our wedding garment that identifies us as his bride. He did the preparation work for our wedding. We simply enjoy our new life, our new name of Christian, and our new wardrobe. Are you ready? These days, many are crying out for the Lord to come soon. One thing is certain from the Bible. He will come and he will not be late…

Be ready.

God Bless,
