8 “ ‘This people honors me with their lips,
but their heart is far from me;
9 in vain do they worship me,
teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ ”
When you are asked what worship is, does your mind immediately go to music? There is a confusion for some reason about the definition of worship. Music is part of worship as is the offering and prayer. Jesus, quoting Isaiah, made it clear when he rebuked the Pharisees and scribes for obsessing over external details like the washing of hands. BTW, trust God and wash your hands often. They looked like they were honoring God but they had made an idol of their rituals. In vain did they with their lips because their hearts were not worshiping God.
We have a unique opportunity to make our homes a center for worship, complete with singing. Churches are not and SHOULD NOT be meeting for the safety of the congregation and the surrounding community and to obey the authorities. Therefore, we can worship God the way the Bible tells us to in Romans 12,
to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
This can happen on Tuesday afternoon as well as on Sunday morning. Vicki and I are now in the habit of morning devotion and prayer together. What a difference in our daily lives! We have been posting Home Worship Guides for Sunday morning but feel free to use them on Thursday morning or whenever. Worship God in Spirit and in truth with your daily walk.
