30 When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them. 31 And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their sight. 32 They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?”
There is a reason first dates on TV and in real life take place at restaurant tables. There is intimacy built into the dinner table. The two disciples had invited this strange man to dine with them, exhibiting the hospitality customary in Eastern lands. As soon as the bread was broken, they saw immediately who this was, Jesus of Nazareth, the one who had been crucified! It had been a regular meal except for the heartburn. Their hearts burned at, not the food, but the Scriptures. There’s a lesson in that.
Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow and learn the answer to the question, What do you say the Bible is? We will see that it is the story of Jesus Christ from the front cover to the back and that he explained it all when he was on earth. As soon as his body was broken, those who followed him knew immediately who he was…
And is.
