Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai, 16 “Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast on my behalf, and do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my young women will also fast as you do. Then I will go to the king, though it is against the law, and if I perish, I perish.
Whatever. We have heard people say that and it could serve as the registered trademark of Indifference and Apathy Inc. That is not what Esther is saying here. In an anti-Semitic culture, then as now, to be a Jew is dangerous. Esther was also queen with certain responsibilities. God put her there for such a time as this. She made a hard decision to support God’s people at the risk of her life.
She knew something that helped her make a courageous decision. God protects his people against their enemies. Her faith helped her believe it when it mattered most. She just didn’t say “Whatever”. She said, “No matter what happens, everything will be alright; even if I perish.” What faith!
Today, your world may fall apart. Many bad things can happen for which we are not fully prepared. It probably will not fall apart today, but it could. In those times of sorrow and pressure, people will tell you everything will be alright, not knowing or even believing it themselves. That is not as convincing as when you yourself say, “Everything will be alright.” That is not saying, “Whatever”. That is saying that everything will be alright because God protects his people…
Whatever happens.
