But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
How many half-finished projects do you have in your past? Maybe there is an eighth of a novel in a desk drawer, half a sweater in a basket, or an unfinished painting in the attic. Think back on the reasons they went unfinished. You lost interest. You became too busy to complete the job. Other things became more important. For Paul, following Christ and his word was his favorite pastime and this last project would soon be finished. He was in prison awaiting the end of his ministry and his life. While passing the torch to Timothy, he gave him this exhortation to stay the course and stay in the sacred writings. Stay in the Bible. His mother and grandmother acquainted him with it and it was imperative that he hold fast to it.
Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow and see how this passage helps us answer the question, “What Do You Say the Bible Is?” The following two verses make it obvious but we will learn from 14 and 15 that we cannot lose interest in the Bible. We cannot become too busy to read it. We cannot put any book above the Bible in importance. No alternative philosophy can get in the way. Or else the world will swallow us up and we will not stay the course. If you continue…
You will firmly believe.
