So the king of Assyria was told, “The nations that you have carried away and placed in the cities of Samaria do not know the law of the god of the land. Therefore he has sent lions among them, and behold, they are killing them, because they do not know the law of the god of the land.” 27 Then the king of Assyria commanded, “Send there one of the priests whom you carried away from there, and let him go and dwell there and teach them the law of the god of the land.”

“This quarry cries on havoc.” This is a free Shakespeare lesson. In Hamlet, Fortinbras invades Denmark only to find the king, queen, and the prince among the dead. He grieved to see such decay. The Bible has a similar story. The king of Assyria was used by God as judgment against Israel for their evil. Their kings sacrificed their children as burnt offerings. They worshiped pagan gods. The Assyrian king saw this and was disgusted. It is sad when an unbelieving invader sees the state of the conquered people and pities them. It is worse when he is the only one who prescribes the Scriptures as the cure.

American culture seems to have been conquered by unbelieving hordes that offer their children as experiments with transition surgery. They worship human identity instead of the Creator of all humans. If another invading army came in today, it would not be surprising to see the reaction. To paraphrase Fortinbras, “This is nuts!”, they may say. They may send someone here to live with us and teach us the Bible. They should not have to. It is our job to make disciples and teach them. Who will go, and whom shall we send?…

Here am I, send me!
