When the sun had gone down and it was dark, behold, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces. 18 On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, “To your offspring I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates, 19 the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, 20 the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, 21 the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites and the Jebusites.”

In one of my favorite movies, The Third Man, the third man, played by Orson Welles, does not appear until three quarters into the film. It is quite dramatic but until that time, the film was still about him. You may think that, because Jesus Christ does not appear until 77% of the Bible was already written, that the preceding books are not about him. Take a look at these verses that, along with Genesis 1, 3 and 22, tell the story of Jesus Christ. The world was created by him and through him. He will restore the damage done by the fall. He is the sacrifice that Isaac was not. And here we see that he is the ratifier of the covenant with Abraham. In Isaiah 6, we see the Lord and the room was filled with smoke. Here the smoking pot initiated the covenant. This is Jesus Christ, the invisible God made visible.

May the invisible God become visible for you today and may you not wait until your life is three quarters done before you see the grand entrance of the title character, the Word. Your life is all about him, whether you see him or not. Read the Bible cover to cover and you will see the star of the show is…

The Light of the world.
