Isaiah 6:9-10
“ ‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand;
keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’
10 Make the heart of this people dull,
and their ears heavy,
and blind their eyes;
lest they see with their eyes,
and hear with their ears,
and understand with their hearts,
and turn and be healed.”
Do you have a passage of Scripture that guides your life? Isaiah 6:1-8 is my life passage. Isaiah saw the glory of the Lord and he saw his own sin. He knew he was doomed because sin cannot be in God’s presence. Then came mercy. Then came the response, “Here am I, send me!” That has always resonated with me as a man who’s been forgiven much. We have been studying verses 1 through 9. Take a quick peek at verse 10 and you will see that it ruins the ride a little. Isaiah was sent to a people who would not listen. How would that make you feel? They would be indifferent and would reject the word of the Lord. At no point though did God tell Isaiah not to go or to go to a people who would be more receptive. Everyone needs to hear the word of the Lord. Even those God knows will harden their hearts.
Today at 3 pm, Cape Community Church’s Prayer Outreach Team will be in the center of town praying for and with people who need to hear the gospel. You can do one of three things to be an Isaiah today, take a prayer walk with a friend, meet us at the library at 3 for your community service hours, or pray for our team for that hour. Like Isaiah, remember that we are sinners in the hands of an angry God, and that God has sent us his Son to cleanse us of that sin, and that he has sent us into a hostile land to a people who will not listen. We can’t opt out. Our only response is…
Here am I, send me!”
God Bless,
