Isaiah 6:4-5

4 And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. 5 And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!”

In my last post, I talked from experience about getting in trouble at school. Do you Remember how it felt to be called to the principal’s office? I hope not. It was far worse when I knew why I was being called. I had done something in violation of school rules and there would be consequences; demerits, detention, suspension, worse? It was usually a stern talking to but imagine what Isaiah felt as he, in effect, was called to the Creator’s office. If you have ever felt an earthquake, you know the feeling of total loss of control, of all power being somewhere apart from you. The awesome power of the Lord was on full display and Isaiah suddenly remembered the covenant rules. He had violated them and so had his people, the Israelites. The word “lost” in this passage clearly means death. A modern translation would be, “Help! I’m toast!”

You may have something looming over your life that makes you feel like there is a rain cloud following you around. It may be a school assignment that soon has a due date and you haven’t started it yet. You may be awaiting the grade for a big test and dark thoughts of failure are hanging in front of you. Take comfort. The story of Isaiah is not over as the next 60 chapters will attest. Trust me. Yours is just beginning…

Your eyes will see the King!

God Bless,

Pastor Boyer
