Psalm 111:4-6
He has caused his wondrous works to be remembered;
the LORD is gracious and merciful.
5 He provides food for those who fear him;
he remembers his covenant forever.
6 He has shown his people the power of his works,
in giving them the inheritance of the nations.
Recently, I was with my brother and his wife and we were faced with a great difficulty. My sister-in-law immediately relied on the Lord, saying he will provide. The next day he provided greatly and we were all totally amazed at our God! Of course, we needn’t be amazed. All we needed to do was read this psalm about the wondrous works of the Lord. They are remembered, recorded, and repeated in the Holy Bible. In it, we see his mercy, from Adam to his church. We see that he provides our needs before we know we need them. He is a God of promise, of power, and of parenthood, making us heirs of his promise and power.
I suppose he is pleased when we express our amazement at his promise keeping power and provision. For myself, I wonder why the thought that God would provide did not occur to me when I was up against a tough time. Too often, we think it is up to our work and power and we need to provide for ourselves. Praise the Lord that is not the case! He promises blessings to those who surrender their will to his power and provision. He has shown it again and again. May we remember and retell the wondrous works of the Lord!
O Heavenly Father, we know you provide and keep your promises in your great power. Forgive us when we doubt you and try to do it ourselves. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
