Revelation 1:4-5
John to the seven churches that are in Asia:
Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth.
I recently received a text from someone I obviously knew but all I had to go on was a phone number. I finally had to reply that I had no clue who the sender was. It is frustrating when we don’t know who wrote something. Hebrews is one such letter. It may be Paul or another writer. Thankfully, we know who wrote the Revelation because of verse 4. It is John, the beloved disciple and the author of a gospel and three letters. It is interesting to note here that, like nearly all the letters in the New Testament, the Revelation is written to churches.
Come to Cape Community Church tomorrow and see that the Bible is not written just to individuals but to churches. The Bible speaks to me and exposes my sin but it also teaches me how to live in community with other believers and with Jesus Christ. These verses tell us who we are but also who Jesus is, the faithful witness (Greek word Martyr), and the resurrected King of kings! We will have our first Communion service of 2025 which will further illustrate that the Christian walk is not a solitary journey but a group tour led by the Lamb of God who is coming again!
O Heavenly father, you are the King of kings and Lord of lords. We praise you for your excellent goodness. Help us to join together in love for you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
