Psalm 104:31-34
May the glory of the LORD endure forever;
may the LORD rejoice in his works,
32 who looks on the earth and it trembles,
who touches the mountains and they smoke!
33 I will sing to the LORD as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have being.
34 May my meditation be pleasing to him,
for I rejoice in the LORD.
- M. Boice said that one writer calls Psalm 104 “the most perfect hymn the world has ever produced.” If you read it in its entirety, you will most likely agree. The beautiful metaphors of God’s creation in these verses are displayed throughout. It is impossible to read these verses and miss the majesty of the Lord. It is also impossible not to rejoice in his works. The Psalmist says that he did and Genesis backs it up. “And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.” (Genesis 1:31)
We can all remember a time when we made something or planted a garden, stood back and admired your own handiwork. Imagine doing that with the heavens and the earth! Moth and rust will destroy our most magnificent works but the glory of the Lord will endure forever because he is the only one worthy of glory.
When you make your to-do list this morning, along with grocery shopping, cleaning, and stopping at the post office, write down verses 33 and 34. Sing praises to the Lord today. Who cares if you can’t sing? The Lord rejoices in his works and you are one of them. Meditate on the Lord and all he has done. Rejoice in the Lord today and…
as long as you live and have being.
