Mark 16:7-8

But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.” 8 And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had seized them, and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.

How often have you rehearsed a monologue with the intent of blasting someone to their face, only to relent from fear, or in some cases, wisdom? That happens a lot to me and I assume, all of you. This has only happened once though. A tomb that was occupied was found to be vacant. The man inside the tomb had risen again and was walking around. And then an angel told you to go tell the disciples. It happened to the women who went to the tomb after the crucifixion of their Lord. It can be understood that they would be amazed and afraid. They may have rehearsed their news, only to remain silent.

This is certainly understandable in their case but how often do we do the same thing when the opportunity arises to share the gospel. If you are like me, you have rehearsed the plan of salvation in any circumstance and then the time comes and…silence. The Good News is astonishing and causes us to tremble, when we think of the cross and the tomb. The Good News is that we will have plenty of opportunities to go tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ was born, died for us, and rose again. He will return. There you will see him!

Dear Lord, thank you that you have given us this story to tell. May we be ready to tell it to those you have chosen to hear it. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
