O house of Israel, bless the LORD!

O house of Aaron, bless the LORD!

20       O house of Levi, bless the LORD!

You who fear the LORD, bless the LORD!

21       Blessed be the LORD from Zion,

      he who dwells in Jerusalem!

                  Praise the LORD!

Another contentious election cycle is coming to a close and soon our inboxes and yards will again be cluttered, not with ads and candidate signs, but with spam and leaves. The shift from commercials touting the candidate to attack ads against their opponent has drawn us away from the reason we vote for people in the first place. We believe in them. It is not just that we hate the other one more so here goes. Consider these verses from the psalmist. In fairness, he had just concluded an “attack ad” against the opponent, the false idols, but with good reason. There is a clear choice between worthless idols with no senses, and the omniscient God of the universe.

Our choice next Tuesday may be more or less clear on certain issues but may the yard signs of our hearts proclaim the greatness of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. He is our King of kings and Lord of lords. O house of America, bless the Lord! O house of our churches, bless the Lord! O house of our workplace, bless the Lord! O house of our family, bless the Lord! Wouldn’t it be great to see our inboxes and yards filled with proclamations of praise to our Lord? We have the opportunity and responsibility to do it. Vote for King Jesus!

Dear Lord, thank you for the blessing of your presence in the midst of chaos. May we cast our vote for you as the president of our hearts. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
