The LORD spoke to Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they drew near before the LORD and died, 2 and the LORD said to Moses, “Tell Aaron your brother not to come at any time into the Holy Place inside the veil, before the mercy seat that is on the ark, so that he may not die. For I will appear in the cloud over the mercy seat.

Ask people what is the best day of the year and most will say it is Christmas, with little knowledge of the importance of the day, when God came to earth to dwell among us. They just love that day. Ask a Christian the same question, and some will say Easter because on that day, Jesus Christ conquered death. Ask a Jew and they will say Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement that Leviticus 16 describes. It was celebrated by Jews a few days ago. Such was its importance that it came to be known simply as, “The Day”.

Our day of atonement was when Jesus, the ultimate Lamb of God, paid the ultimate price to atone for our sins. Three days later, he demonstrated his power over death and sin by walking out of the tomb. We could call Easter, “The Day”, and celebrate it as the ultimate Day. There is one more great day to come. Martin Luther wrote that he had two days marked on his calendar; this day, and That Day. On that day, the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, we will celebrate our ultimate atonement in his presence!

Dear Lord, you are the Great Redeemer. Thank you for the atonement. Help us to prepare for That Day when you return for your bride. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
