14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world

It has been impressed on me in the past year or so that there are a lot of problems in the world. You may call me a master of the obvious, as Sherlock Holmes once called Watson, but some of the main problems I have noticed have been in the church. There is an absence of two of the staples of the Christian walk. We have relegated prayer as a waste of time and we have become biblically illiterate. In these words of Jesus, we see God the Son in prayer to God the father and we hear him espouse the Bible as truth.

I have been taught over the years to turn a problem into an opportunity. The problem of biblical ignorance and lack of prayer are opportunities to stress those very things. Therefore, this devotional begins with Scripture and ends with a prayer. Pray along with me to be sanctified, drawn to God, as Jesus prayed.

Dear Lord, Thank you for allowing us before your throne and forgive us for not speaking with you more and for not listening to you in the Bible. From this point on, may we be found on our knees and in your word. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
