Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices;
my flesh also dwells secure.
10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol,
or let your holy one see corruption.
11 You make known to me the path of life;
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
On our Prayer Walks, we meet people with a wide range of needs. On Saturday, the first two men we spoke to wanted nothing to do with us and preferred to be left alone. One by one though, we encountered a young man from the Dominican Republic, another from Turkey, and a young woman from Spain, all international students and all, alone. Then we prayed for 6 Coast Guard cadets to finish their last week of Boot Camp. Everyone we met needs these verses from Psalm 16 in one way or another. David sang of his trust in God from his whole being for his assurance and preservation forever.
The two men need to know the path of life. The three students need community with Jesus and others. The six cadets need God to preserve them. Everyone we met may be suffering in this epidemic of loneliness in different ways and need the assurance of salvation found only in Jesus. They need to know that whatever happens to them, that they are not alone. God is with us. They need to know that there is a path to life, security, joy, and pleasures and this all comes from being with Jesus. Praise God that he has shown this to you!
Dear Lord, thank you that you are there when we feel alone. We pray for those who do not know you so they will feel your presence. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
