who does not put out his money at interest

and does not take a bribe against the innocent.

He who does these things shall never be moved.

Put your money where your mouth is. We have all heard that phrase. The Collins dictionary describes it as spending money to improve a bad situation, acting on a commitment instead of just talking about it. In other words, walk the talk. In their words, “The government might be obliged to put its money where its mouth is to prove its commitment.” The Bible tells us in many places to help the poor and there is little disagreement on that score but there are many who say it is someone else’s job while themselves fleecing the poor and the innocent. According to Psalm 15, only those who refrain from this activity can dwell on God’s holy hill. This verse speaks out more against extortion and corruption than it does against interest and profit.

The answer to the question asked in verse 1 of this Psalm, the question of who can sojourn and dwell in his tent and his holy hill is; no one. No one that is, until Jesus came and sojourned among us, scaling the holy hill on which stood an old rugged cross, on which our Savior bled and died. Now the poor traveler, the stranger, the alien, and the exile can put their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. No one can extort or cheat us out of that inheritance. May we praise the Lord today for this Good News.

Dear Lord, thank you that you advocate for your people and even died for us. May we praise you and serve you for our new home. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
