So Lot chose for himself all the Jordan Valley, and Lot journeyed east. Thus they separated from each other. 12 Abram settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled among the cities of the valley and moved his tent as far as Sodom. 13 Now the men of Sodom were wicked, great sinners against the LORD.

In our lives, our memory provides us with key crossroad moments where our lives changed based on a decision. When I started talking with this girl in high school, little did I know that we would be married 37 years with children and grandchildren as a legacy of that decision. Small decisions can be huge, look at Lot. Abram, in a settlement of a dispute, gave Lot first choice as they separated. He chose poorly. He chose to fall in with the wrong crowd, so wrong that they were known for their wickedness, and sodomy and sodomize remain words today for perversity. Abram chose the land God promised him. He chose wisely.

Even though God is sovereign, we are afforded a choice to do his will or our own. We usually choose our own Think back to a time when you made a decision that affected the rest of your life. Now think back to the decision God made to save you from your own perverse desires and will. He freed you from slavery to sin by sending Jesus to the cross. When that happened your Master changed and your desires changed. Now you can look back and say that God wasted none of our mistakes. Praise the Lord!

Dear Lord God, thank you for choosing to save us and for the price that was paid. Help us to make decisions based on your love for us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
